Girl, You deserve a mental break: 4 Self-care Ideas Add to Your Routine

Hey girl, this is your sign to take a mental break! You deserve it more than anything. We have so much on our plates every day that we forget to take time for ourselves.

I wanted to share with you some of my favorite ways to unwind and relax:

Get up and active

I know that sometimes exercise can be the last item on our to-do list. Of course, we know that our bodies love it when we exercise but our minds do too! When we exercise it releases endorphins that can accelerate our mood and helps us to relax. It’s a great way to improve your sleep as well. Rather it’s dancing for 30 min to your fave playlist or taking a walk, your body will thank you for it.

Rather it’s dancing for 30 min to your fave playlist or taking a walk, your body will thank you for it. My favorite physical activity lately is Kickboxing. It’s the perfect activity for me to learn a new skill and release any anger through the different kicks and punches. Walking at local parks is another favorite exercise. I am able to enjoy the fresh air and take some time away from my phone.

I challenge you to try exercising before work and see how your day might be different!

Unwind & Journal

If you’re a journal addict like me then it’s time to knock off the dust and dedicate a journal for your thoughts. Journaling allows you to keep your mind clear and let everything building up out. When you journal you might even discover things you were harboring inside. You can think of it as writing in your diary, like when you were younger.

You can search for journal prompts or free write your thoughts. There are even journals you can purchase with guided entries. If you’re more of a digital girl, search for journaling apps or use your notes app.

Let me tell you there are no rules to journaling.  You can even draw out your thought if you’d like. Find a pretty journal or two, cute pens, and get to writing!

Tap into Therapy

A few years ago, I shared with you all that going to therapy has been one of the best investments of my life. That still stands true to this day. Speaking with someone to help you on a professional level is a totally different experience than running to your besties for advice.

Going to therapy can be a scary step but it’s one of the best things we can do for our mental health. Your therapist can help you unpack issues you’re dealing with that you feel swamped in. They’re able to assist you with childhood trauma that you had no clue was affecting you. Just need someone to vent through without bias? They can do that too. Accountability is one of the favorite things I love about therapy.

I want to share a resource here for those of you who live in Atlanta or surrounding areas: Ray of Hope Counseling Services. They offer a variety of services like family therapy, couples/marriage therapy, child therapy, and more. If you need a therapist in Peachtree City, you can visit their Peachtree City location, or you even utilize their online service. Whatever works for you.

I’ll be honest therapy is not always an easy step to take but it’s worth it.

Digital Detox

I spend a LOT of time on my phone due to my job and it can be overwhelming. Working in social is no joke plus being a blogger/influencer, whew. To relieve the stress and relax my mind from all this, I love a good digital detox. This is where I take a break away from social media.

Small ways you can digitally detox are using the app limit settings if you have an iPhone. You can set a designated time for your apps to lock or a usage amount (i.e. 2 hr for Instagram, 1.5 hr Pinterest).

I also like to take these mini-breaks if I find myself spending too much time on my phone when I have other things I should be focusing on. We don’t realize how much we get caught up in our devices so it can be good to take a break from time to time. I’m sure your eyes will thank you too.

I hope these tips were helpful to upgrade your self-care list! If you want any additional tips or need advice, feel free to email me hello@manestyleblog.com.

Promise me that you’ll do something for yourself this week! Talk to you soon.
