#ManeCrushMonday w/ Gené Hunter
Happy Monday loves! I’m back with another #ManeCrushMonday with the talented and gorgeous Gené Hunter. Gene’s bright style and personality caught my eye so I had to add her to my #MCM list and I’m glad I did! I really enjoyed this feature with Gené because sis dropped some gems about being your true self. So let’s get to this interview!
P.S. First off, let me apologize for the mini hiatus. I’ve been trying to get my life so I had to step away for a few weeks.
Mane Style: How long have you been natural?
Gené Hunter: I’ve been officially natural since 2013, so about 6 years now.
MS: What is your go-to hairstyle that never fails?
GH: I love a good twist out. It literally never fails and it goes with any outfit or any function that I attend.
MS: Do you have any holy-grail products you can’t live without?
GH: Mousse! I love foam wrap, it comes in handy for everything. My wash and goes, slicking down my hair for a bun, my twist outs .. everything. Specifically, LottaBody’s Foam Wrap.
MS: Describe your personal style in two words?
GH: Comfy-Chic
MS: What clothing store(s) could we find you in, mostly?
GH: Honestly, I’m a big thrifter. So you can catch me in Value Village, Park Ave Thrift, sometimes Goodwill. I love finding my style and putting pieces together. But I also love online stores like Boohoo, that’s a go to.
MS: If you couldn’t live without one thing in your closet what would it be?
GH: Ahh .. dresses for sure! Sometimes when I’m too lazy to piece together outfits, I just throw one on and keep it pushing.
MS: Does your outfit of the day reflect how you wear your hair? Or vice versa?
GH: Absolutely! Some outfits pop more with some big curls and some work better with a sleek bun.
MS: Just for fun, who are your top three #WCW or just women who inspire you?
GH: Omg, Beyonce of course, BeyHive all day! But also, I love Scottie Beam, she’s in media and such a transparent woman. I’d also have to say I’m crushing on Meg Thee Stallion right now too but I also love that she’s not afraid to just .. be herself at all times. I think we need more of that from women. Being unapologetic is where it’s at.
MS: If you could share one of piece advice with readers, whether it be about style, hair or life, what would it be?
GH: ALWAYS BE EXTRA!! That’s with everything. Your style, your life, your hair .. everything. I spent a few years of my life dimming myself down to make people feel comfortable or just afraid that people would critique me and ask “who do you think you are?” so I went ahead and counted myself out before other people got the chance. Don’t dim your light for others simply because they’re intimidated or afraid to shine. Be extra, always!
Mane Style: How can we connect with you?
Gené Hunter: Oh yay! My Twitter and IG: @genebhunter and you can catch up with my lifestyle blog at genebhunter.com
