#ManeCrushMonday w/ Jayla
Happy Monday loves!
Today’s #ManeCrushMonday is going to bring you so much JOY! Our crush for today is the beautiful Jayla Moody of joybyjayla.com. It was so ironic that I came across her page because right now I’m on a personal journey of choosing joy. I just want to say I think it is so amazing when I see my peers standing on platforms such as Jayla’s. Make sure to check out her website, I promise you will not be dissapointed.
Let’s get to the interview!
Mane Style: How long have you been natural?
Jayla Moody: I have been natural my entire life. I grew up with a mother who really valued haircare, hair growth and hair maintenance. I started to go to a natural hairstylist in the 2nd grade, and I’ve been going to one ever since. I’m 22 now.
MS: What is your go-to hairstyle that never fails?
JM: My go-to hairstyle is a flexi-rod set on blow dried hair. The second I perfected it, I knew I would never look back. If you look through any of my social pages or any of the pictures I use for events and press, I likely did a flexi-rod set. I feel unstopabble with it.
MS: Do you have any holy-grail products you can’t live without?
JM: Because I have color treated hair and I have for about 3 years now, I make sure that I am constantly saturating my hair with some kind of oil. I used to hate oily hair when I was younger, but it’s so important to make sure colored hair isn’t drying out. Mizani Supreme Oil is my favorite to use. It works well on natural and straightened hair as well.
MS: Describe your personal style in two words?
JM: On brand. I try to always wear something that brings me joy. This may not necessarily come together to create a distinct look for me, but I enjoy bright colors and just about anything orange! Orange is considered to be the color of JOY!
MS: What clothing store(s) could we find you in, mostly?
JM: GAP. As a young child, my auntie used to always buy me and my brother clothes from the Gap every year for birthdays and Christmas. It’s still a favorite for me.
MS: If you couldn’t live without one thing in your closet what would it be?
JM: Just about any shoe with a platform. I love a good platform sneaker. Give me heels, but make it comfortable.
MS: Does your outfit of the day reflect how you wear your hair? Or vice versa?
JM: Absolutely. I decide how I’m going to wear my hair, then I pick out my outfit. It varies for me. A slick back or a bun outfit will look a lot different than a flexi-rod set outfit.
MS: Just for fun, who are your top three #WCW or just women who inspire you?
JM: My mother, Teresa Moody (@sweet_teamoody) & My best friends Jada and Malaika (@_hislop and @lakelak3. These three women have sewn into me in physical, mental and spiritual ways that they may not even be aware of. I’ve been many places and met many people, but I know that no matter where I am in the world, I always have a home in the hearts of these 3.
MS: If you could share one of piece advice with readers, whether it be about style, hair or life, what would it be?
JM: Your life belongs only to you. Because of this, only you have the power to make it exactly as you want it to be. You have to make the conscious effort every single day to choose your joy and design the life you want.
